Basics
Yin Yang and Five Elements
6/3/2026
Yin-Yang and the Five Elements are foundational models in TCM for describing balance, change, and relationships in the body and nature.
Yin and Yang
Yin and Yang describe complementary opposites—cold and heat, rest and activity, exterior and interior. Health reflects dynamic balance between them.
Five Elements
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water symbolize organ systems and their generating/controlling cycles. For example, the Liver (Wood) and Spleen (Earth) interact in both physiology and pathology.
Clinical Relevance
These models guide pattern identification, formula selection, and acupuncture point choices throughout TCM practice.
